Fields Pond Audubon Center

Visit this 192-acre sanctuary, which features: a modern visitor center, an 85-acre pond, and trails winding through field, wetland, forest, and lakeshore habitats.

The center offers dozens of year-round public programs, a Maine Audubon Nature Store, volunteer opportunities, and day camps for children.

The variety of habitats and trails at Fields Pond Audubon Center are ideal for nature study, wildlife-watching, paddling, walking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.

April Vacation Camp at Gilsland Farm

Grades 1-5

Sign up for the whole week ($355) or by the day ($75/day)

Monday: Camouflage Day. Study forest and meadow to find animals that blend into their surroundings. Play camouflage, log roll and catch creatures and study their colors to discover how coloration helps critters survive.

Tuesday: Earth Day Celebration. Celebrate Earth Day and make the earth a better place. We will repurpose recycled items into new and fun crafts, including soda bottle greenhouses, egg carton caterpillars and coffee can bird feeders.

Summer Camp: Too Cool for School

Ages 6-9

It’s hot! Learn how animals keep themselves cool during the hottest days of the summer. We will find the coolest places at Gilsland Farm to play games, make crafts and learn how animals have evolved to ‘stay cool.’

Summer Camp: Animals Great and Small

Ages 6-7

Campers will explore the ponds, meadows, forests and salt marsh in search of creatures of all sizes. We will play fun and educational animal-themed games.

Summer Camp: Habitat Safari

Ages 6-9

During this 2-week day camp, campers will explore our varied habitats and learn how animals depend upon them for food and shelter. We will develop skills like nature sketching, plant identification and bird watching, while appreciating the world around us.

Summer Camp: Wonderful Water

Ages 9 -11

Why do all animals and plants need water? Campers will learn all about water and how to keep our water resources clean and healthy for the future. We will search for bullfrogs, cool down with water games and explore the wonderfully watery and wild places at Gilsland Farm and beyond.

Summer Camp: Circle of Life

Ages 8-10

We will explore Gilsland Farm to learn about the circles of life that exist in nature. From the water cycle and metamorphosis to dissecting owl pellets, campers will get a close-up look at the life cycles that make nature go ‘round.

Summer Camp: Nature Myth Busters

Ages 6-9

Why do bees sting and skunks smell bad? We will dive into nature’s mysteries using our investigative skills and learn about mammals, insects, plants and more! Campers will develop critical thinking skills to understand animal adaptation and behavior.

Summer Camp: Secrets of the Wild

Ages 6-7

There are secrets hiding in every corner of the Earth! In this 8-day summer camp session, campers will uncover the mysteries of wildlife by rolling over logs, examining tree cavities and playing educational games in the forest habitat.

Explorers: Sense of Place!

Ages 4-5
