Science Friday Sticky

Science Friday is an amazing radio show and website. You can listen live via Public Radio International from 2 to 4 P.M. EST, download the podcast or listen and watch videos online. This program has been around since 1991 and covers the latest science from all fields as well as instances where science influences our culture and entertainment.

Science Friday is the source of my inspiration for creating weekendscientist.org as they endeavor to bring science to the enthusiast in all of us.

We Can All Be Scientists

Not long ago a scientist was someone who conducted research as a hobby or if they were just curious about the natural world and didn't have to worry about making money to cover their cost of living.  Charles Darwin, Gregor Mendel both conducted scientific studies and laid the foundation for basic principles that are accepted throughout the world. Today, amateur astronomers often make discoveries before professionals. We can all be scientists in our spare time. There are discoveries yet to be made and we can each contribute data or time towards analysis or even develop our own project. Use this site to explore so see what is out there to get you started in observing and becoming involved in the latest scientific discoveries.

Science Needs You Now

Enthusiasts everywhere are contributing to scientific research in their spare time. One is a high school student who developed a test for cancer, while others contribute just a few minutes a day helping astronomers hunt for planets in our galaxy.

Many others devote time during their weekend watching birds, studying the stars, visiting a museum or volunteering at a wildlife sanctuary.

Take a look around and you'll surely find something interesting and fun that improves all of our scientific knowledge.
